What Kind of Learner Am I
Looking back at my education I can say that I am a hands on/group style/visual learner. When teachers/professors stood at the front of the room for 45 min (or a couple hours in college) I had a very tough time staying focused. I was a very active kid that needed to get up and move around. This is why I think i excelled in topics that allowed me to interact with other students. Science, PE, World History (Social Studies) all gave me the chance to be "active" in the classroom. Math and English (did fine in both subjects) gave me the most troubles staying focused due to the large part of the instructors having to stand in the front of the room. When I was in school there was not a ton of EdTech, we had our overhead projectors and a school computer lab that may have had a dozen computers in it thus only really leaving teachers the most archaic methods (good old lectures). I'm not saying they were a bad thing, but when you looked around and half the students were taking a nap that was a problem. With coming back to school and seeing what kids and staff have to play with now makes me jealous. Staff would be doing their students a great disservice if they didn't incorporate the current technology.
Hey Jeff,
ReplyDeleteI'm totally the opposite I learn best when reading and seeing a picture and listening to someone's lecture. I understand and remember things by seeing and hearing them. I can picture what I learned in my head and by looking back over the notes that I took during the lecture. If I have a student that like learns better with the hand on but shy how can I help them to over come that?
